Moderately Effective
Based on 3 Researches
We conducted a clinical study to evaluate how effective garlic extract, known as MEKRITEN, is in treating chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), a common ear infection. Our research involved two groups: one receiving MEKRITEN and another using a comparison drug, levomycetin. Over the course of ten days, those in the garlic extract group used two drops twice daily in their outer ear canal, while the comparison group followed a similar regimen with levomycetin.
Our findings revealed that the patients treated with MEKRITEN experienced quicker relief from ear discharge and had fewer side effects compared to those using levomycetin. The study highlighted garlic's potential as a powerful treatment for ear infections, proving that local application of MEKRITEN is more effective than traditional methods. Ultimately, our exploration into garlic's therapeutic effects opens new doors for enhancing treatment options for CSOM.

Garlic shows promise against infectionsAntimicrobial Activity of Garlic Derivatives on Common Causative Microorganisms of the External Ear Canal and Chronic Middle Ear Infections.
Direct focus on ear infection treatment
We set out to investigate the potential of garlic derivatives as an alternative treatment for ear infections. With antibiotic resistance on the rise, finding new ways to combat these infections has become increasingly crucial.
Our study focused on the antimicrobial properties of four garlic compounds: allicin, s-allyl cysteine (SAC), diallyl disulfide (DADS), and s-allyl mercaptocysteine (SAMC). By using the broth microdilution method, we tested how effectively these compounds could inhibit the growth of bacteria and yeasts that commonly cause ear infections.
We were excited to find that both allicin and SAC demonstrated impressive antimicrobial activity, even at low concentrations. This opens up the possibility that these garlic derivatives could be used in the future to treat infections in the ear. However, DADS and SAMC showed considerably less effectiveness, particularly SAMC, which did not showcase any significant impact against the tested microorganisms.
Overall, our findings suggest that garlic derivatives, particularly allicin and SAC, could represent a promising direction in the search for new treatments for ear infections.

Garlic mixed with herbs effectiveEfficacy of naturopathic extracts in the management of ear pain associated with acute otitis media.
Moderate relevance to garlic's effect
We explored the effectiveness of a naturopathic ear drop solution that includes garlic as one of its components for treating ear pain linked to acute otitis media (AOM). The study focused on children aged 6 to 18 years who were experiencing ear pain. They were divided into two groups, with one receiving the herbal extract containing garlic and other herbs, while the other got a standard anesthetic solution.
Throughout the study, we measured the pain levels of the children using visual analog scales over three days. Interestingly, both treatment options proved to be similarly effective in alleviating pain, with noticeable improvements for all participants.
While garlic was present in the treatment containing Otikon, the study did not isolate its effect from the other components. Hence, we cannot effectively draw any conclusions about the specific influence of garlic alone on ear infections or pain relief. Overall, the results suggest that the herbal extract, alongside other ingredients, is a viable alternative to traditional anesthetic ear drops for managing ear pain.

Amazing sinus infection relief! I had been taking Kyolic garlic products on and off but got a horrible sinus infection from a mould allergy on vacation. After trying various natural remedies to no avail, I turned to Kyolic Reserve. After one tablet, my head started to clear, and I even felt my ear pop while sleeping. I continued to improve after taking a few more doses. I'm elated to find such a powerful natural antibiotic; my sinus infection has cleared!

Effective immunity booster
Best garlic supplement. After trying several garlic supplements, I always return to this one. It has no taste or smell, and I can tell it works best for my body and immunity. I use it preventatively for cold/flu and haven't been sick in three years. Recently, I caught a bug and took two pills three times a day, and my symptoms were gone in three days, without progressing to a full illness.
